Thomas Chippendale’s (1718-1779) furniture includes a variety of styles from Rococo to Gothic and oriental. When he died his business was carried on by his son who was also named Thomas. Thomas (the first) was the first cabinetmaker to publish a book of his designs, The Gentlemen and Cabinet-maker’s Director, which resulted in his styles being popular and widely copied in his time and they still are today.
