Birdseye Maple: Naturally occurring figure most often found in maple, the “eyes” can vary in size, shape and number per square foot, sometimes described in terms of shotgun pellet size: birdshot (small “eyes”) , buckshot (large “eyes”), scatter shot (not so closely concentrated), and peppered (concentrated all over the board).
