I designed this king size Sleigh Bed and the Chests that complete the set. The bedroom suite is made with butternut which was chosen for its beautiful nut-brown color. Included in the set are a Lingerie Chest, a Low Chest of Drawers, two Three Drawer Nightstands, and the king size Sleigh Bed. Never impressed by the mess he created on the shelf of a standard nightstand, the customer wanted to store everything out of sight. Therefore I designed these small three drawer chests to act as nightstands. The customers provided pictures of a bed that they liked. From those photos I adapted some of the design details into a better constructed bed. The chests designs incorporate some of those same details. I could easily make the same sleigh bed queen size and or different size chests.
A sleigh bed is a style of bed with curved or scrolled foot and headboards thus resembling a sleigh. The sleigh bed originated in the French and American Empire period of the early 19th century. The Empire style, and thus the American Empire style, drew its inspiration from the empires of ancient Rome and Greece.
