Chairs – Benches – Stools

     ORIGINAL DESIGNS

The influence of Windsor chairs, Shaker furniture, and Thos. Moser are obvious in the designs of my Contemporary Windsor Chairs, Stools, and the Bowback Benches.  I  worked for Tom Moser from 1980 through 1986.  My TLB Chair design shows mission influence.

     REPRODUCTIONS

An Episcopal Deacon, my mother,  commissioned the reproduction Shaker Meeting House Bench for the entryway to the church where she worked.  The  Transition Dutch Chairs with Spanish Feet are copies of a chair owned by, and reproduced for, the Princeton Theological Seminary Chapel .  I also reproduced a Refectory Table for the Chapel from a photo in Wallace Nutting’s book: “Furniture Treasury.”  The Seminary later asked me to design this matching tall occasional table for the Seminary to hold their Bible.

I copied several  challenging chair designs for customers who couldn’t find them elsewhere.  Included are the Transition Dutch Chair linked above and a Frank Lloyd Wright Barrel Chair.  These are the only items professionally photographed.  I can’t post the photo of the Wright chair on the website due to copyright restrictions, but  I can send you a copy of the photo file if you contact me at: [email protected]

    AMATEUR PHOTOS

Scroll through the Amateur Photos section of my website or click the following direct links to see more chair examples including:  1) “Olney” Chair: a photo showing the unfinished frame of an Italianate Side Chair with upholstered seat and  carved back and legs.  The order included two arm chairs and four side chairs which I copied from the powder post beetle eaten parts of an old chair.   2)  Glass-Top Dining Table and Chairs: These items were part of a whole house full of Mission inspired furniture I designed and built.  3) Rocking Chair: This was my first attempt at a rocker; it lacked a headrest, in my opinion necessary to a comfortable rocking chair.  4) 6 Foot Bowback Bench is a larger version of my most popular item, the4 Foot Bowback Bench and can be made in any length you specify.   5) The Contemporary Windsor Arm Chair, designed and built to compliment my Contemporary Windsor Side Chair, has yet to be professionally photographed.
